Our story

Builders and cabinetmakers in one company

Woodmaster has two sides. The building side takes on custom homes, room additions, ADUs, garage conversions and whole-house remodels. Our cabinet shop at 8133 Clybourn St builds the cabinets for our kitchens, baths and built-ins.

Having the shop means the cabinets in your kitchen come from people we know by name, built to the measurements we took in your house. You deal with one company for the whole room, from the walls to the cabinet doors.

We have done this work in Los Angeles for more than 30 years, on houses and on commercial jobs: retail, offices, restaurants and hotels.

Solar and energy upgrades

Why a home builder took on energy work

California's Title 24 energy code is one of the strictest in the country, and since 2020 most new California homes must include solar. Builders of custom homes and additions work to it already.

The code covers the insulation, the windows, the ducts and the solar on a new house. Adding the same upgrades to a house you already own was a short step for us. For solar, heat pumps and electrical work, we bring in licensed partners.

Cross-section of a house: solar panels on the roof, insulation above the ceiling, sealed ducts in the attic, windows in the walls and a heat pump outside. 1 2 3 4 5
  1. Solar on the roofSince 2020, most new California homes must include solar. We now plan panels and batteries for existing homes too, and a licensed solar partner installs them.
  2. Attic insulationTitle 24 sets how much insulation goes in the attic and walls. Older houses often have far less.
  3. Dual-pane windowsNew windows have to meet limits on heat loss and solar heat gain. Low-E glass keeps afternoon heat outside.
  4. Sealed ductsThe code calls for ducts that are sealed and tested for leaks, so the air you pay for reaches the rooms.
  5. Heat pumpOne system heats and cools the house on electricity. Licensed partners install heat pumps and heat pump water heaters.

Who we work with

Homeowners, architects, designers and contractors

We work for homeowners directly and alongside the architects, interior designers and contractors who bring us onto their projects. That includes commercial work: retail, offices, restaurants and hotels.

Homeowners

Kitchens, baths, additions, ADUs, whole-house remodels and energy upgrades. One office runs your job from the first visit to the final inspection.

Architects

We build from your drawings and work through the details with you on site, so the finished house matches the plan.

Interior designers

Our shop builds cabinetry to your design. Jen Crowe, an interior designer in Los Angeles, says she has referred her clients to Hanan and his team for the last 8 years.

Contractors

We work with other contractors on residential and commercial jobs, including custom cabinetry built at our Clybourn St shop.
